Imprinting fascinated Jean Dubuffet for forty years and it is indissolubly a part of his creative oeuvre. Throughout his life, in certain intense and active phases, he would not cease to explore the range of the different techniques of printing and most of all that of lithography, interpreting and inventing new methods in order to better meet his needs. According to a set of associations and the logic distinctive of this artist, each discovery led him directly to a rich field of developments into which he was to rush with an unvarying sense of wonder, ignoring the limits of these new fields of investigations. A compilation of the works produced by the artist between 1944 and 1984 was first exhibited at the Pera Museum with the exhibition Jean Dubuffet: Meeting with a Great Artist of the 20th Century and a catalogue was prepared in parallel with the exhibition. The catalogue includes Jean Dubuffet's life story, as well as articles describing the different periods of the artist.
